Location
Karratha is a city in the Pilbara region of WA, adjoining the port of Dampier. Karratha came into being in 1968 due to the tremendous growth of the iron-ore industry and the need for a new regional centre caused by a shortage of land in Dampier. The city’s name comes from the cattle station of the same name, which derives from a word in a local indigenous language meaning “good country” or “soft earth”.
