About
At the end of the 1969 season, the NSW based Lismore club withdrew from the fledgling Gold Coast Australian Football League which identified Broadbeach as a target area for a new team. A public meeting was held in early 1970, and four people that were not affiliated to other Gold Coast Clubs attended.

One of the four persons at the meeting was Jim Stubbs, who agreed to take on the challenge of starting a new club on the provision that the new club would wear the colours of the Geelong Football Club. In 1971, Broadbeach entered the GCAFL.

The Broadbeach Football Club have competed at the top AFLQ level since 1997. In 2005 the Cats were one of 8 inaugural members of Queensland football’s new first division set-up. In 2011 the club was elevated to the new NEAFL (North-Eastern Australia Football League) and spent 3 seasons in that competition before returning to the QAFL in 2014.
