Originally known as the Seahawks, and boasting red and green colours, the Hervey Bay Australian Football Club was established in 1977, and won a Senior premiership in the Bundaberg Australian Football League in their debut season.
The 1985 season brought about a change of image, with the adoption of the Bomber emblem and Essendon-style black and red playing uniforms.

Hervey Bay is a coastal city in Queensland, located 290 km north of Brisbane. Hervey Bay is the whale watching capital of Australia, with humpback whales migrating along the coast between April and October. The city takes its name from Hervey Bay, named by James Cook in 1770 after Augustus Hervey (1724-1779), 3rd Earl of Bristol.
