AFL TOWNSVILLE

AFL Townsville was formed as the Townsville Australian Football League in 1955, the first competition to be formed in Queensland outside of the South East. For a short period in the 1980s, the competition was played during the summer months. The representative team is known as the Eagles.

Location
Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Queensland. Adjacent to the central section of the Great Barrier Reef, Townsville is Australia’s largest urban centre north of the Sunshine Coast, with a population estimate of 200,000. It is considered the unofficial capital of North Queensland. The city was named after Sydney entrepreneur and businessman, Robert Towns.
