About
The club was founded in 2000 by Marty Lynch, a UTS student at the time, adopting the “Bats” nickname as a result of an initial sponsorship from Bacardi Rum. The club was founded after competing in the 1998 and 1999 Australian University Games.

The Bats took out the Sydney AFL Club Champions Award in 2008, 2009 & 2010, awarded to the club with the best overall performance across all grounds & all divisions.

From humble beginnings, the Bats have grown into one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the AFL Sydney competition. In 2015 the club has grown to include a women’s team by merging with the UTS Shamrocks which has its own history in the Sydney AFL competition.
