Randwick is a suburb in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, located 6 km southeast of Sydney’s CBD. Randwick was named after the village of Randwick, Gloucestershire, in England. The suburb of Malabar was named after a ship called the MV Malabar, that was shipwrecked on rocks at Miranda Point on the northern headland of Long Bay in 1931. The ship itself was named after Malabar, a region in the Indian state of Kerala famous for its history as a major spice trade centre.
