The West Gippsland Football Netball Competition was formed in 2017 as part of the AFL Gippsland Senior Football Leagues Review of 2015-16.
The inaugural season featured 10 clubs – Bunyip, Cora Lynn, Dalyston, Garfield, Inverloch-Kongwak, Kilcunda-Bass, Koo Wee Rup, Korumburra-Bena, Nar Nar Goon and Phillip Island.
2019 saw the addition of two new clubs, with Warragul Industrials and Tooradin Dalmore welcomed to make WGFNC a 12 team competition.
The competition comprises four grades of football (seniors, reserves, under-18 and under-16).
