The Coomera Australian Football Club was formed in November 2009. The logo of the Magpie was chosen as it was used by the local junior club that was established in 1997.

In 2010 the senior club competed in the 2010 State Association Division 3 Central competition, fielding one team.

After having overwhelming support from the local community and player numbers too high to cater for, the Coomera Magpies applied to enter and were accepted into the AFLQ State Association DIV 2 for the 2011 season. This allowed the club to field a reserves team and start an Under 18s side.
