Formed in 1964, the Labrador Tigers played in the Gold Coast Australian Football League until they were promoted into the Queensland State League in 1997.

From 2011-2014 the Tigers were an inaugural member club of the NEAFL Australian rules football competition.

Labrador is a suburb located on the Gold Coast that overlooks the Gold Coast Broadwater to the east and Southport on the southern border. Robert Muir, a Scottish Engineer, is believed to have named the area after a local fishery in north-eastern Canada.
